Chlorosis
Nutrient deficiency — iron, manganese, or zinc (physiological disorder)
Overview
A condition where leaves produce insufficient chlorophyll, turning yellow while veins may remain green (interveinal chlorosis). Caused by nutrient deficiencies (iron, manganese, zinc) often related to high soil pH.
Symptoms
Yellowing of leaves between veins while veins remain green (interveinal chlorosis). New growth affected first in iron deficiency. Older leaves affected first in manganese/zinc deficiency. Stunted growth. Leaf margins may brown.

Prevention
Test soil pH and amend to appropriate range for the plant species. Choose plants adapted to local soil conditions. Add chelated iron or sulfur to alkaline soils. Mulch with acidic organic matter.
Management
Foliar application of chelated iron for quick response. Soil application of chelated iron or iron sulfate. Lower soil pH with sulfur or acidifying fertilizers. Add organic matter. Trunk injection for trees.
