Jersey Supreme is the most recent release in the Rutgers all-male Jersey asparagus series, bred for even earlier production and improved disease resistance over Jersey Giant and Jersey Knight. It emerges very early in spring and offers high yields of uniform, medium to large spears thanks to its predominantly male plants, which put their energy into spears rather than seed. Jersey Supreme is noted for adaptability to lighter, sandier soils where it often outperforms other Jerseys, as well as good cold hardiness for northern beds. Crowns are vigorous and long-lived, remaining productive for 15 years or more. Spears are smooth, deep green with tight tips. It is well suited to USDA zones 3 to 8 and is a strong all-around choice for gardeners wanting an early, dependable, disease-tolerant asparagus.
