IISR Subhakara

    Black Pepper(Piper nigrum)

    A high-yielding black pepper variety released by the ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research, Calicut, as a clonal selection (KS-27) from the popular landrace Karimunda. It is one of the most widely planted improved varieties.

    Piperine about 3.4%, oleoresin about 12.4%, and essential oil about 6.0%.

    Well suited to Kerala and southern Karnataka; average dry yield about 2,352 kg/ha.
