Blueray is a midseason northern highbush blueberry released by the USDA in 1955, a sibling of Bluecrop and long a home-garden favorite for its outstanding flavor. It bears large, firm, aromatic light blue berries with a rich, sweet-tart taste that many gardeners rate above the more famous Bluecrop. The vigorous, upright to slightly spreading bushes are very cold hardy and produce heavy, dependable crops. Blueray tolerates a range of conditions and puts on a fine ornamental show with pink-tinged spring flowers and good fall color. Its combination of excellent taste, hardiness and reliability has kept Blueray popular for home plantings for more than half a century.
