    Pot Marigold(Calendula officinalis)

A classic heirloom introduced in 1931 (named for the era of radio broadcasting), distinctive for its quilled, cactus-like petals. Bears semi-double marmalade-orange flowers with rolled petals around a citrus-yellow center; noted as less sticky/aromatic than the wild type.

    Flavor Profile

Petals are relatively mild and not excessively resinous, making them pleasant for salads, scones and garnishes.

    Visual Characteristics

Semi-double orange flowers with quilled/rolled petals resembling a cactus-flowered dahlia, surrounding a sherbet-orange to yellow disc, on thick stems roughly 20-24 inches tall.

    Growing Tips

Grow in full sun; the sturdy stems and unusual quilled form make it a good cut flower. Deadhead to prolong bloom.
