Pacamara
Coffee(Coffee)
A Coffea arabica cultivar created in El Salvador by the Instituto Salvadoreno de Investigaciones del Cafe (ISIC) as a deliberate cross between Pacas and the very-large-beaned Maragogipe. It is famous for its enormous beans and frequently dominates Cup of Excellence competitions.
Flavor Profile
Exceptional quality potential at high altitude; complex and distinctive, especially prized in El Salvador and a frequent Cup of Excellence winner.
Visual Characteristics
Dwarf-to-compact stature with very large beans (much bigger than Caturra) and green or bronze leaf tips.
Growing Tips
Best at high elevation (>1,600m depending on latitude). Low yield with medium nutrition needs; first harvest in year 3. Plants are not genetically stable from one generation to the next, so propagation and uniformity require care. Plant at 5,000-6,000 plants/ha with single-stem pruning.
Resistance Information
Disease Resistance
Poor; low resistance to coffee leaf rust, susceptible to coffee berry disease and nematodes, and highly susceptible to Ojo de Gallo (American leaf spot).
