Beit Alpha cucumbers are a Middle Eastern type, named for the Israeli kibbutz where they were developed, prized for smooth, thin-skinned, seedless-textured fruit. These are the classic Mediterranean or Persian-style cucumbers, producing slender fruits about four to six inches long with thin dark green skin that needs no peeling and crisp, sweet, non-bitter, burpless flesh. Many Beit Alpha types are parthenocarpic, setting fruit without pollination, which makes them productive in greenhouses and high tunnels and yields seedless fruit. Vigorous vines respond well to trellising. Maturing in about 55 to 65 days, they are excellent for fresh eating and salads. Beit Alpha cucumbers are increasingly popular with home and market growers who want the tender, sweet, thin-skinned quality of Persian cucumbers.
