    Hidcote

    Lavender(Lavandula)

    Drought tolerantBushy

Hidcote is arguably the most famous English lavender cultivar, named for Hidcote Manor Garden in England and prized for its intensely deep violet-purple flowers and compact, tidy habit. Growing to about eighteen inches tall, it forms a dense, rounded mound of silvery-green foliage topped by short, richly colored flower spikes in early to midsummer. Its dark flower color holds well when dried, making Hidcote a favorite for lavender wands, sachets, and dried arrangements as well as low hedges and edging. Highly aromatic and much loved by bees, this hardy, drought-tolerant cultivar thrives in full sun and sharply drained soil. Its combination of compact form and the deepest purple flowers has made Hidcote a benchmark ornamental and culinary English lavender for permaculture gardens.
