    Alphonso

    Mango(Mangifera indica)

    LargeHeat tolerant

Alphonso is a premium Indian mango cultivar originating from the Konkan region of Maharashtra, particularly Ratnagiri and Devgad, and is often called the "King of Mangoes." Named after Afonso de Albuquerque, the Portuguese general who helped establish colonies in India, it has been cultivated for centuries and remains one of the most exported and sought-after mangoes worldwide. Alphonso is prized for its rich, non-fibrous flesh and intense aroma, commanding premium prices in export markets. It is a monoembryonic variety, meaning seedlings do not grow true to type, so it is propagated by grafting. The fruit is used fresh, in desserts, and to make the celebrated Aamras pulp and Indian mango lassi.
