Palmer is a Florida mango cultivar that originated in Miami-Dade County and was introduced in the mid-20th century as a late-season variety. It has become especially important in Brazil, where it is one of the leading commercial export mangoes, and is also grown in Florida and other tropical regions. Palmer is valued for its elongated shape, attractive color, low fiber, and excellent shelf life, which make it well suited to long-distance shipping. It is monoembryonic and propagated by grafting. The firm flesh and appealing appearance have made it a staple in European supermarkets, and it produces reliably with good resistance to handling damage.
