Arbequina

    Olive(Olea Europea)

One of the world's most widely planted oil olives, originating from the village of Arbeca in Catalonia, Spain. Its small size, early bearing, and high productivity make it the standard for modern high-density (super-intensive) orchards.

    Flavor Profile

Produces a mild, buttery, fruity oil with floral, almond, and tropical notes and low bitterness; the oil is low in polyphenols and relatively short-lived.

    Visual Characteristics

Small, symmetrical, rounded fruit that is yellowish-green with a faint blush when harvested, ripening to dark brown; tree is low-vigor with a spreading, somewhat droopy habit.

    Growing Tips

Adapts to a range of soils but prefers alkaline soil and hot, dry summers; its compact, low-growing form suits high-density planting and hand harvesting, and it is an early and heavy bearer.

    Resistance Information

    Disease Resistance

Frost-hardy and generally pest-resistant; tolerant of peacock spot at wider spacing but susceptible to olive knot and verticillium wilt, with low tolerance to black scale.
