Frantoio

    Olive(Olea Europea)

A classic Tuscan oil variety (its name means 'olive mill') regarded as one of the world's premier oil cultivars and widely used as a benchmark for high-quality extra virgin olive oil.

    Flavor Profile

Fruity, well-balanced oil with floral, almond, green apple, fresh-cut grass, and artichoke notes; high in polyphenols, giving a sharp, persistently peppery character.

    Visual Characteristics

Moderately vigorous tree with a spreading-drooping growth habit and medium-dense canopy; fruit is typically harvested about half green and half purple.

    Growing Tips

Ripens late and unevenly, so harvest is phased; needs a fairly long, mild growing season and protection from hard frost given its cold sensitivity.

    Resistance Information

    Disease Resistance

Reports vary: some research notes relative tolerance to verticillium wilt while nursery sources list it as susceptible; it is cold-sensitive and susceptible to peacock spot, scale, and olive knot.
