Aureum

    oregano(Origanum vulgare)

A golden-leaved ornamental selection of common oregano forming a low, spreading mound of wiry stems clothed in bright golden-yellow foliage. Widely grown for its color, with the tiny pinkish-purple flowers often removed to keep the foliage on display.

    Flavor Profile

Mild, warm oregano aroma; foliage is fragrant but of limited culinary value compared to Greek oregano, more prized as an ornamental.

    Visual Characteristics

Bright golden-yellow, broadly ovate leaves on a low mound roughly 6-12 in (15-30 cm) tall spreading to about 18 in (45 cm); pale pink tubular flowers in small terminal clusters from midsummer to fall. Foliage can revert to green.

    Growing Tips

Grow in full sun for best color, but give some afternoon shade in hot-summer climates to prevent leaf scorch/bleaching. Needs well-drained soil. Holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit and valued as a pollinator plant.

    Resistance Information

    Disease Resistance
