Polyphant

    oregano(Origanum vulgare)

A green-and-cream (white) variegated ornamental oregano that arose as a sport of 'Aureum Crispum' at the Polyphant Herb Nursery in Cornwall, England. Grown for its bright variegated foliage and pretty flowers.

    Flavor Profile

Aromatic oregano-scented foliage; grown primarily as an ornamental herb.

    Visual Characteristics

Compact deciduous sub-shrub to about 30 cm (12 in) tall and wide, with oval, slightly hairy white-and-green variegated leaves and clusters of small white to pale pink tubular flowers.

    Growing Tips

Best in full sun to light shade in well-drained soil, but note the variegated foliage tends to scorch in intense summer sun, so some afternoon shade helps in hot climates; hardy to roughly -5 to -10 C (RHS H4). Propagate by division or cuttings to maintain the variegation.
