Possum Purple

    Passion Fruit(Passiflora edulis)

    73 days to maturity

    Flavor Profile

Sweet, moderately strong flavor with a pleasant aroma; juice-rich pulp.

    Visual Characteristics

Medium-dark purple peel covered with numerous light dots; fruit 2.5 to 3.5 inches long and about 2 inches in diameter, egg-shaped, and wrinkling as it ages.

    Growing Tips

Self-fertile, so a single vine will fruit; time from flowering to harvest is 70-75 days, with fruit dropping when ripe. Grow in full sun on a strong trellis in well-drained, slightly acid soil. Note: the 70-75 days is fruit development time from flowering, not days-to-maturity from planting.

    Resistance Information

    Disease Resistance

As a purple type it is more susceptible to root-attacking nematodes and Fusarium than yellow types; commonly grafted onto yellow passion fruit rootstock in Florida to reduce root disease and nematode damage.
