O'Henry

    Peach(Prunus persica)

A large, late-season yellow freestone peach introduced in 1968 by California breeder Grant Merrill of Exeter; by the mid-1980s it had become one of California's top commercial and home-garden peach varieties.

    Flavor Profile

Sweet, fruity, slightly tangy flavor balanced by acidity; complex, well-regarded flavor.

    Visual Characteristics

Very large fruit with an orange-yellow base almost entirely covered by a dark red blush; dense, firm golden-yellow flesh with red near the pit that stays firm when ripe.

    Growing Tips

A California favorite suited to warmer stone-fruit regions; the firm flesh ships and stores well. Grown as a standard late-season freestone peach in full sun with well-drained soil.
