Redhaven

    Peach(Prunus persica)

Bred by Stanley Johnston at Michigan State University and introduced in 1940, Redhaven is one of the world's most widely planted peaches and the standard against which other mid-season yellow freestone peaches are measured. It is a heavy-bearing, cold-adapted, easy-to-grow cultivar.

    Flavor Profile

Firm, sweet, freestone flesh with excellent quality and classic peach flavor; good for fresh eating, canning, and freezing.

    Visual Characteristics

Medium-sized fruit with dark red blush over a yellow ground color and firm yellow flesh.

    Growing Tips

Self-fertile, so no pollinator is required. Needs full sun (6+ hours), well-drained soil, and is hardy in roughly USDA zones 5-9. Fruit ripens over July-August and can be harvested in more than one pick because it ripens somewhat unevenly.

    Resistance Information

    Disease Resistance

Resistant to bacterial (leaf) spot; still susceptible to common peach insect and disease problems.
