Florigraze

    Rhizoma peanut(Arachis glabrata)

The original and most widely planted rhizoma perennial peanut cultivar, jointly released by the University of Florida/IFAS and the USDA-NRCS Brooksville Plant Materials Center in 1978. It is a versatile, widely adapted forage used for both hay production and grazing, persisting as far north as central Georgia (Macon).

    Visual Characteristics

Low-growing, dense, rhizomatous perennial legume with narrower leaflets and finer rhizomes than 'Arbrook', bearing bright yellow-orange pea-like flowers.

    Growing Tips

Must be established vegetatively from rhizomes (produces almost no seed); plant rhizomes 1-2 inches deep and cultipack immediately, ideally during winter dormancy or the summer rainy season. Dry-matter yields range roughly 3-6 tons/acre.

    Resistance Information

    Disease Resistance

Historically the standard, but its productivity has declined in some areas due to susceptibility to peanut stunt virus, which newer cultivars (UF Tito, UF Peace) were bred to tolerate better.
