Magilla

    Perilla(Perilla frutescens)

    Flavor Profile

Grown as an ornamental foliage plant; lacks the distinctive cinnamon-like foliage fragrance of common culinary perilla and is not used for culinary flavor.

    Visual Characteristics

Wrinkled, serrated coleus-like leaves up to about 6 inches long marked with shades of purple, pink, green, and cream; mounding habit roughly 2 feet tall and wide.

    Growing Tips

Grow in fertile, uniformly moist soil in full sun to light shade; bright light encourages better color development. It is essentially seed-sterile, so it does not self-sow aggressively, and is propagated from cuttings.

    Resistance Information

    Disease Resistance

No serious pest or disease problems reported; a fast-growing heat lover well suited to hot weather.
