Goldberg is a golden-leaved purslane (Portulaca oleracea) bearing gold-tinged succulent leaves about 1.5 inches long, much larger than wild purslane, on orange-tinted stems in a low, fast-growing mat. Crisp and mild with a slightly tangy, lemony note, it is eaten fresh in salads or lightly cooked. Highly drought-tolerant and happy in poor sandy or rocky soil in full sun, it is frost-sensitive and sown from tiny surface-set seed after the last frost. Cut to within about 2 inches of the base and it regrows for repeat harvests.
