Goldgelber is a German-named golden purslane (Portulaca oleracea) prized for very large, meaty, bright golden-green leaves on a much more erect plant than the wild weed, staying fairly low while spreading to roughly a foot. Juicy and appealing with a slightly citric note, it is excellent raw in salads and as a garnish. It needs warm soil around 75 to 85 F to germinate, then compost-rich, consistently moist ground with mulch and 6 to 8 inch spacing. Harvest continuously by picking leaves as needed through the warm season.
