Meech's Prolific is a nineteenth-century American quince cultivar, raised in Connecticut and named for its remarkably heavy, early bearing habit. As the name promises, it is very productive and begins fruiting at a young age. The fruit is large and pear-shaped with bright golden-yellow skin and a strong, pleasant fragrance, cooking well for jelly, preserves, and baking. Trees are somewhat smaller and more manageable than some quinces, making Meech's Prolific a good choice for smaller gardens. Its combination of early, abundant cropping and fragrant, good-quality fruit kept it popular for many decades and it remains a recommended heirloom variety.
