Fiore Blu

Good mild flavor, milder than the wild species, with the characteristic oyster-like taste; versatile in the kitchen and edible raw when young or cooked when full-sized.

Medium-sized roots reaching the size and shape of imperator-type carrots but cream colored; produces striking vivid blue-purple flowers in the second year, with edible flowering shoots resembling asparagus.

Direct sow April through late June; hardy to USDA zone 5 and excellent for winter CSA/harvest, with roots harvested after frost. Self-seeds freely if allowed to flower.
