Visual Characteristics
Medium-sized roots reaching the size and shape of imperator-type carrots but cream colored; produces striking vivid blue-purple flowers in the second year, with edible flowering shoots resembling asparagus.
Growing Tips
Direct sow April through late June; hardy to USDA zone 5 and excellent for winter CSA/harvest, with roots harvested after frost. Self-seeds freely if allowed to flower.
