A U.S.-patented (PP10774) selection of Hypericum perforatum bred in Sangerhausen, Germany, developed for uniform first-year growth suited to mechanical harvest and consistent hypericin yields in commercial production. It resembles the species but is typically more compact and heavily branched.
Visual Characteristics
More compact and heavily branched than the wild species; produces hard, two-lined stems with opposite branching, lanceolate glandular leaves, and star-like sulfur-yellow flowers, blooming uniformly at about 40-50 cm with stems around 55 cm; enables machine harvest of the upper 20-30 cm.
Growing Tips
Shows unified, vigorous growth from the first year and a uniform canopy height, making it suitable for establishing mechanically harvested commercial medicinal stands quickly.
