    St. John's Wort(Hypericum perforatum)

An improved medicinal cultivar of Hypericum perforatum evaluated in an ex situ common-garden study in Iran, where it outperformed a wild Iranian (Ardabil) population in phenological, morphological, and chemical traits. Its naphthodianthrone (hypericin plus pseudohypericin) content averaged about 0.091% dry weight versus roughly 0.012% in the wild population (about a tenfold difference).

    Visual Characteristics

Superior plant height and mean leaf area compared with the wild population, with abundant black glands per leaf and the characteristic yellow, star-shaped St. John's Wort flowers.

    Growing Tips

Performs strongly under cultivated common-garden conditions and is a good high-hypericin choice where improved yield over wild stock is desired.

    Resistance Information

    Disease Resistance

Showed relative tolerance rather than full resistance to Colletotrichum gloeosporioides; plants persisted despite mild infection and produced flowering shoots in both study years.
