Fort Laramie is an everbearing strawberry released by the USDA in 1973 and bred for exceptional cold hardiness, thriving in the northern plains and mountain regions where many strawberries struggle. It produces two main crops of large, firm, bright red berries with a sweet, aromatic flavor, one in early summer and another in fall. The hardy plants survive harsh winters with only light mulch protection and runner freely to establish new plants. Because it fruits on runners, Fort Laramie also does well in hanging baskets. Gardeners in cold climates value it for combining strong winter survival with heavy repeat cropping and richly flavored fruit, making it a dependable everbearer for challenging northern conditions.
