Black Krim is a dark beefsteak heirloom originating on the Crimean peninsula on the Black Sea, from which it takes its name. It produces slightly flattened fruit of 8 to 12 ounces that ripen to a deep mahogany-maroon with dark green-black shoulders, especially in strong sun and heat. The flesh is dense, juicy and richly flavored with a faintly salty, wine-like undertone that sets it apart from red tomatoes. Indeterminate vines fruit over a long season and thrive in warm conditions. One of the most popular of the black tomatoes, Black Krim is grown around the world for fresh eating and remains a favorite at heirloom tastings.
