CIMAP-KH 40
Vetiver(Chrysopogon zizanioides)
A seed-infertile autotetraploid vetiver clone (somatic chromosome number 4x=40) created by CSIR-CIMAP through genome duplication of a diploid clone (2n=20), developed specifically for carbon sequestration and soil conservation rather than oil. Also referred to as CIMAP-Khus 40.
Flavor Profile
Khus-note oil, but the clone is bred primarily for biomass and soil conservation rather than aroma
Visual Characteristics
Robust tetraploid grass with thicker main roots (about 2.3 mm base diameter versus 2.0 mm in the diploid progenitor) and heavier root biomass; sterile seeds with virtually no germination
Growing Tips
Seed-sterile and therefore non-invasive, making it safe for ecological and hedgerow plantings; estimated carbon sequestration potential around 860 g/m2/year with root biomass roughly doubling after one year.
