CIMAP-Khusinolika
Vetiver(Chrysopogon zizanioides)
A distinct, short-duration diploid vetiver clone (2n=20) developed by CSIR-CIMAP through recurrent selection in a polycrossed wild population, uniquely producing khusinol-rich essential oil under a very short cultivation cycle. US Plant Patent PP28388.
Flavor Profile
Essential oil unusually rich in khusinol (about 45-50% v/v, versus around 19% maximum in prior varieties)
Visual Characteristics
Spread-clump plant type (70-80 cm canopy) showing prostrate-spreading growth at the 2-3 month stage before turning erect
Growing Tips
Roots can be harvested for distillation after only about six months, yielding over 1% (v/w) essential oil from fresh roots (~18-20 kg/ha), allowing it to fit into short-duration cropping systems.
