Vetiver(Chrysopogon zizanioides)
One of the earliest improved vetiver cultivars, developed and released by CSIR-CIMAP (Lucknow, India) in 1982 through selection of Indian germplasm. A long-established commercial khus-oil variety valued for a characteristic woody essential oil.
Flavor Profile
Woody, earthy khus-note essential oil; oil rich in khusimol, gamma-elemene, khusimene, ar-curcumene, alpha-amorphene and delta-cadinene
Visual Characteristics
Densely tufted perennial bunchgrass with erect narrow leaves and a deep fibrous root system that is distilled for oil
Growing Tips
Roots are ready for harvest and distillation roughly 18-24 months after planting in the traditional longer-duration khus cultivation cycle in India; some CIMAP sources also class KS-1 among their shorter-duration (10-12 month) selections.
