Sugandha
Vetiver(Chrysopogon zizanioides)
A superior autotetraploid vetiver genotype developed by CSIR-CIMAP that outperforms its diploid parents in root biomass and oil percentage, released for commercial cultivation in India.
Flavor Profile
Khus-note essential oil with elevated oil percentage relative to diploid parents
Visual Characteristics
Tetraploid clump-forming grass with markedly higher root biomass and thicker roots (~2.1 mm base diameter) than diploid vetiver types
Growing Tips
Reported to yield about 21.2 q fresh roots/ha, 1.4% oil content and roughly 19.7 kg/ha of essential oil; as a tetraploid it produces heavier root mass but requires about 18 months of growth to reach full oil concentration.
