Suebelle

    White Sapote(Casimiroa edulis)

The best-known and most widely grown white sapote cultivar, originating in Encinitas, California (Susan Hubbell, 1931; syn. Hubbell) and still common in nurseries. A medium-sized tree well suited to home culture that bears fruit nearly year-round. Note: a distinct cultivar, Neysa, was commonly mis-sold as Suebelle from 1955-65.

    Flavor Profile

Sweet and pleasant; long regarded as one of the best-performing cultivars, still not surpassed by newer selections per CRFG.

    Visual Characteristics

Variable-sized, usually small, yellow, somewhat asymmetrical fruit (CRFG describes the ripe skin as yellow rather than green).

    Growing Tips

Best picked when soft; because it bears nearly continuously it is convenient for home gardens.
