TME 419
Cassava(Manihot esculenta)
One of the most widely grown and popular improved cassava cultivars in West Africa, a landrace originating from Togo and disseminated through IITA-Nigeria. Prized by farmers and processors for high yield, high dry matter, and its poundable quality for traditional food processing.
Visual Characteristics
Produces large storage roots with high dry matter and starch content; roots are poundable, making it well suited to traditional food processing. Plants are erect with robust stems.
Growing Tips
High yielding, commonly cited at roughly 20-30 tons per hectare (well above the regional average) with high dry matter content. Matures in roughly 9-12 months and is adaptable to various agro-ecological zones.
Resistance Information
Disease Resistance
Carries CMD2-type resistance to cassava mosaic disease (robust against African cassava mosaic virus). Note: it is NOT resistant to cassava brown streak disease (CBSD) - CMD2-type cultivars including TME 419 are documented as highly susceptible to CBSD.
