Sesaco 37
Sesame(Sesamum indicum)
A non-dehiscent (shatter-resistant, 'IND') sesame variety bred by the Sesaco Corporation in the United States specifically for mechanized combine harvesting, addressing the historic seed-shattering problem of sesame. Protected under US patent application US20150264879.
Visual Characteristics
Buff/tan-colored seeds; a tall plant with a longer capsule zone than comparable varieties, with capsules that retain seed rather than shattering open at maturity.
Growing Tips
Bred for mechanical harvesting; improved capsule false-membrane adhesion and placenta attachment give strong seed retention under rain, fog, dew and wind after maturity. Adapted from South Texas up through Central Kansas.
