Lehua Maoli

Makes high-quality 'Lehua red poi' that starts grey and ferments to red over a couple of days, commanding premium market prices.

Medium-height, well-spreading, relatively slender plant. Corm flesh is light purplish-lilac with darker purplish-lilac fibers and dark pinkish-lilac skin; yellowish-green petioles with a pinkish cast and a dark reddish-purple ring at the base, 65-80 cm long.

Grows under both upland (dryland) and wetland culture; matures in about 8-12 months and produces 5-10 offshoots (oha).
